Here Is Bread

The Great Commission calls disciples of Jesus to go into the world teaching, baptizing and making believers. We are to be multipliers. We are to bear fruit. Nowhere in God’s Word does Jesus teach we are to be consumers. In today’s language, we are to be producers.

History bears witness to the efforts of those early believers. They went forth turning the world upside down for Jesus. We don’t read about great revivals or great Christian colleges, or great churches. History tells us of persecuted people leaving their homes and their families and as they went, they went telling about Jesus. These people established new homes, they built churches and many died in the process.

What is so very interesting is they went with what they had in terms of faith. They were not people equipped after years and years of sitting on comfortable chairs or pews to spread the Gospel. They did not require a weekly re-baptism or another dose of heaven sent Holy Spirit. When they received Jesus as Savior they were changed! They took the simple message of the Good News and told everyone they met. A definition of evangelism I read long ago was, "One beggar telling another where to find bread." Those early believers found the BREAD OF LIFE and shared it with all they met.

Let us bear in mind that we are to do the work God leads us to do when He calls us to do it. This applies to all believers and not just to pastors, evangelists or preachers. We are His servants and our most important duty is to serve Him.

I’ve heard pastors say, "If you aren’t being feed then you are going to the wrong church."

Does it ever occur to those pastors that God sends people to churches. Sometimes it is to get something to equip them for greater ministry and greater works. But, never does He send people to a church to sit on their hands and be takers instead of givers. Yes, there is something to be said for inspiriting moving music and for dynamic preaching. But, believers are to be as willing to give of themselves as they are to receive. In my view of the Kingdom of God - if you are working you will never be fed no matter how great the church and the worship.

If more of God’s people would listen to His voice and stop going to "get something" they might find unimaginable blessings. When you are at a church and willing to work and to give you do get fed. You grow in spirit, in faith by leaps and bounds.

Instead of looking around for that great preacher to feed you, consider being the one who does the feeding. It doesn’t mean preaching or even teaching but doing the work God puts in front of you. Perhaps there is a small struggling church near you in need of a faithful believer. Help a congregation grow and prosper if you really want to be fed.
