| Are You Lost? | ||
Luke 19:9And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham. 10For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost. Ever heard the line, "I don’t know where I am but I’m making good time?" Guys never like to use a map and when we get lost we don’t admit it, we’re just making good time. You can’t be lost unless you know you are lost. Take the fellow camping in the high mountains of Utah. He has a compass; he is on a trail shown on the map. He is walking along enjoying the sights and then he comes to a fork in the trail. He consults his map but the fork isn’t shown. Does he go right or left? Unsure, he decides to go back the way he came. Another fork? He doesn’t remember taking a fork. Confused, he consults the map but it doesn’t show a fork. He’s not lost he concludes; the map is wrong! Many, many people don’t realize they are lost, they know God exists and they’ve heard about Jesus and they know church has something to do with religion. But, they don’t know they are lost. You have to know where you are to be lost. Are you Lost? In Christian terminology we use this word and few now what is meant by it. Jesus came to seek and save those who were lost. God knows where they are and what their spiritual state is. Lost actually describes a person’s spiritual state and not their physical location. To be lost is to be lost to God. When a son disobeys his father there is something between them. When a person disobeys God there is something between them. The person’s spiritual state is lost. When you aren’t with God you are lost. Jesus came to seek, that is to find or restore. Thankfully, when Jesus finds us and we accept Him as Savior and Lord we are restored to God. That restoration is for all eternity even if we disobey God again because we accept Jesus’ sacrifice for eternity. Little Amber is six years old and as cute as a button. Her mother tells her not to play on the bed. Amber loves to play on the bed. Of course when Amber is caught playing on the bed she says she is sorry. Mom accepts the "sorry" and is no longer angry with Amber. But Amber loves to play on the bed and does so again. Will there come a time when mom stays mad at Amber for playing on the bed? No, there will be restoration even if Mom is the one who has to do it.
