How proud I am to bear Your name, O Lord" (Jeremiah 15:16) A meal in itself - Italian Sausage sandwich followed by strawberry shortcake. Long ago I sat at a lunch counter in a mall in Newport News. VA. and ate just that. Then there was a memorable meal in Chicago at a loop restaurant complete with real waiters and linen tablecloths. The spaghetti wasn’t the best but it was passable. Before, during and after my college years I devoured books - over a hundred novels a year. I read everything from westerns to horror. My favorites were sea novels and of course Travis Mcgee mysteries by McDonald. Books were more important than food. What sustains you? Food? Books? Exercise? Relationships? The Christian is sustained by God’s word. Ever wonder why there are so many so-so Christians. Neither hot nor cold, no desire and no fire? Could it be God’s word is to them what a steak is to a vegan? They could read it but choose not to. In their weakness they have no stomach for prayer or regular worship. "How proud I am to bear your name". Jeremiah writes. Really? Wow! This day that the Lord has made and you have breath in your body are you proud to bear His name? People all around wear logos of schools, sports team even autos. Women and girls even grace their buttocks with such. Let us be strong in God’s word and well fed with His promises so that we can proclaim we are proud to be called by His name.
