Got Your Clothes On Yet?

Be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble – 1 Peter 5:6b

Have you ever worn a hair vest? Quite a few of us did back in the sixties; they were "voss". In today’s language that would be awesome. What you wore back then identified you just as young people are identified today. Mostly we had preppies, hippies and greasers. Are you A, Skater, Rocker, Nerd, Gangster, Emo, or Gothic? Bet we could tell by what you choose to wear.

Clothing choice has a lot to do with the identity we choose to project that is based on the things we like. Rockers are into rock music. Skaters like skateboarding. Clothing is also closely aligned to music choice.

Humility is one of those words you only hear at church. Motivational speakers would faint if someone dared suggest being humble. Our society says we are to live and act in such ways that we are not over-looked, looked down upon or taken advantage of. Squeaky wheels get grease and notice. He who shouts the loudest gets the goodies. "I can do it" stands out. So where does this leave humility? Perhaps on the back pew as you exit the sanctuary.

Today is a good day to consider what you project to others. Perhaps, a deeper consideration of how God sees you is in order. In our dog eat dog; push the old or lazy or slow or considerate out of the way you have lost humility. It is much more IMPORTANT to be pleasing in God’s eyes than the eyes of your friends.

God’s Wisdom: Romans 12:3 "For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned"

Worldly Wisdom: Wanting to be someone else is a waste of the person you are.
