The Lost Book

2 Chronicles 34:21

21Go, enquire of the LORD for me, and for them that are left in Israel and in Judah, concerning the words of the book that is found: for great is the wrath of the LORD that is poured out upon us, because our fathers have not kept the word of the LORD, to do after all that is written in this book.

My desk and work area is one huge mess of books, papers, glasses, computers, cd cases and cd’s. Finding something is not an easy task but "It’s in there!" Sometimes, while looking for something else I find something I was looking for earlier and gave up. There are people with work areas similar to mine that say, "I know where everything is unless somebody moves something." Sorry, I don’t believe them for a moment.

A lost book of the Bible? How is that even remotely possible? When was the last time you read Second Chronicles? Is it Old Testament or New Testament? You probably guessed it is Old Testament and comes after First Chronicles but what comes next? Ezra??? What and who is Ezra?

Don’t be surprised they lost a book. After hundreds of years and many wars, it was possible to lose something especially if it wasn’t be used. We could lose Ezra out of the Bible and nobody would notice. That which we find of value we know where it is but that which is of little importance we lose and not miss it.

How long before you lose your Bible? God’s Word will never perish but it may become lost.

Amy Grant recorded THY WORD. The chorus is:

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet

And a light unto my path.

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet

And a light unto my path.

Is it no wonder we walk in darkness and in a dark land. To add light and purpose to your life read God’s Word. We have our favorite passages but let us not lose any of the Word by neglect and laziness.

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. (John 14:27)

This is a story I came across years ago. The message is simple but bears thought. Think often about it today.

There once was a King who offered a prize to the artist who would paint the best picture of peace. Many artists tried. The King looked at all the pictures, but there were only two he really liked and he had to choose between them.

One picture was of a calm lake. The lake was a perfect mirror for the peaceful towering mountains all around. Overhead was a blue sky fluffy white clouds. All who saw this picture thought that it was a perfect picture of peace.

The other picture had mountains too. But these were rugged and bare. Above was an angry sky from which rain fell, and in which lightning played. Down the side of the mountain tumbled a foaming waterfall.

This did not look peaceful at all. But when the King looked, he saw behind the waterfall a tiny bush growing in a crack in the rock. In the bush a mother bird had built her nest. There, in the midst of the rush of angry water, sat the mother bird on her nest ...perfect peace.

Which picture do you think won the prize? The King chose the second picture. Do you know why? "Because," explained the King, "peace does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble, or hard work. Peace means to be in the midst of all those things and still be calm in your heart. That is the real meaning of peace."

God’s Wisdom: "But all who humble themselves before the Lord shall be given every blessing and shall have wonderful peace." Psalm 37:11

Worldly Wisdom: "For peace of mind, we need to resign as general manager of the universe."
