His Promise To You Today

God’s way is perfect. All the Lord’s promises prove true. He is a shield for all who look to him for protection. Psalm 18:30 NIV

Parents sometimes drop their children off for lessons, to play with friends or for team sports. Almost always a parent will say, "I’ll be back for you." And give a time. They follow with, "Just wait for me and don’t leave." Maybe nine out of ten times the parent arrives early to pick up the child. Through many repeated episodes the child learns the parent keeps the promise to return.

God promises us that Jesus is coming again. All the promises of God have proven to be true so should this one be an exception? Certainly not – God will keep this promise. Jesus is coming again at exactly the right moment in history.

I read about a man whose son was in a school flattened by an earthquake. Every day the man would wait outside of the school to walk home with his young son. He would say every morning, "I’ll be here to take you home – wait for me." When word of the earthquake reached the man he ran to the school. He stood for several minutes staring at the devestation. He cried along with all the other parents. Just as he started to turn from home and tell his wife their son was dead he remembered the promise, "I’ll be here to take you home." The man climbed across the rumble to the location of his son’s room and began to dig. People told him, "It’s no use, your son is dead." The man kept digging and calling his son’s name for more than a day. Exhausted and about to give up he heard his son’s weak voice call, "Dad!" Later the boy said to his father, "I knew you would come for me, you promised."

No matter how things go for you today remember Jesus is coming, he promised.
