Taking Care of Others

Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing. 1 Thess. 5:11

"Be good to your children because they will choose your nursing home. I never liked that bit of wisdom because I hope never to be in a nursing home. If my last days should come to that I pray I don’t have a functioning brain.

Taking care of others is something that comes naturally some folks. Somehow they are born with a sense of caring that defines their personalities and their lives. Nurses and doctors come to mind but there are others such as those who serve as missionaries, those who teach school and those who volunteer. Without such people imagine how cold the world would be.

Caring kicks in for some when they have children. There are dads and moms who live for their children. Unfortunately, there are also dads and moms who are self-centered and their children come second. When those children leave home it is "good riddance" instead of "empty nest". What those selfish parents don’t realize is that everyone sees them for what they are.

God’s word teaches us that God sees the heart. He certainly sees our actions and hears our words but He is very aware of our motivations. When we are "In Christ" He is our motivation. We care for others because we are in Him and He is in us. There is never any thing selfish or phony in our caring. What we do comes from the heart or rather from the soul.

Let us spend this day encouraging one another and building each other up. Let it be said of us that, "just in fact you are doing" is everyday and not some days when we are aware God is watching.
