![]() For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 1 Corinthians 1:18 A lady went into a jewelry store on a Monday to buy a cross. She was a new Christian having received Christ as her savior on Sunday. The clerk evidently of a different culture and religion was unfamiliar with Christianity. He asked, "Do you want one with the little man on it or one without the little man?" She thought for a moment and asked, "What’s the difference in price?" As any number of Christians about the two types of crosses and the answers might surprise you. There are those who in their ignorance would proclaim the Crucifix (Christ on the cross) wards off vampires. Why are there crosses with Jesus and others without? Those who prefer the Crucifix because of their denomination do so because the "Corpus" (human body of Jesus) affixed to a cross is not a decoration or piece of jewelry but a holy representation of Christ’s redemption. Those who, because of their denomination, wear the simple cross do so as a profession of their faith to others in the resurrected Lord. The MESSAGE of the CROSS is foolishness to those who do not believe in God. The MESSAGE is: God so loved the people of the world that HE was willing to die to save the people of the world. In short, we wear crosses to proclaim the MESSAGE of God to an unbelieving world. Jesus, God’s only begotten son, loves you and He died that you might have life. Rejoice in Him and in life today.
