BLOCKHEADS or LIVING STONES?

1 Peter 2:5 - you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

Joe Theismann of the Washington Redskins was carried from the football field with a broken leg. It was the last game of his career. He wears to superbowl rings – one for winning a superbowl and one, he says, for losing a superbowl. Joe admits that in the latter part of his career he began to see the game as revolving around him and not the team.

God’s word tells us that we, each one of us is a living stone. Together, we are fitted together by the Lord Jesus into a spiritual house. Now, that house can be visualized as a church building built of stone or brick with walls, doors, a roof, steeple and the like. Or that spiritual building can be visualized as an organization composed of committees, teachers, choir members, students, leaders and the like. The choice is yours has how you want to view the church.

Think for a moment about your church. If you see it as a building, are there holes in the walls or is part of the roof missing or maybe it has no steeple. If you see it as an organization you are probably aware that not all the organization is in place. Instead of a hole in a wall or missing steeple the church is missing the choir and possible a youth leader.

To be honest most church have holes. Those holes are there because some people are refusing the opportunity to serve God where He wants them to serve. It could be they feel they are not equipped for the service or they consider the responsibility to be more than they are willing to do. How about you, are you serving where and how God has called you?

Each person is important to the church. No one person is more important than another. But, each of us has a place in the church and if we are not in that place there is a hole in the church. The most important person in any church is Jesus. Let us pray daily for the church we attend and for all the holes to be filled. Let our Spiritual House be a beautiful shining witness to our community.

Remember: A complete life is one that has God at the center.
