One Bad Decision

And he tarried seven days, according to the set time that Samuel had appointed: but Samuel came not to Gilgal; and the people were scattered from him. 1 Sam 13:8

Have you ever decided a decision needed to be made and you made it even though you didn’t have all the facts or information you needed to make the right decision? The old saying is "A day late and a dollar short." We’ve all been there and suffered the consequences. The better decision would have been to wait on God.

Saul was a great and mighty king. God was on his side and nothing stood in the way of his kingdom lasting for thousands of years. That is, except one thing, Saul’s ego. God had said to Saul, "I will be with you" and He was right up until the time Saul disobeyed Him.

Samuel the prophet told Saul to go to Gilgal and wait seven days then he would come and make a sacrifice as God commanded. On The seventh day Saul got tired of waiting and made the sacrifice. It wasn’t Saul’s job to make the sacrifice and by doing so he disobeyed God. It was at this point God turned against Saul.

Wait seven days. Saul didn’t do it. How different his life would have been had he just waited the WHOLE seven days. He got in a hurry, he felt pressured by the people, and he made a rash decision he would live to regret.

One of the great things about being a Christian is that we can seek the forgiveness of God through our Lord Jesus. When we are foolish and make decisions we should have waited to make God can forgive. We do not have to live the remainder of our lives with regrets. Yes, there are consequences to going against God that we do have to live with but we have the assurance of having been forgiven.

Someone said, "Life is a learning process from birth to grave." We learn from our bad decisions. God expects us to learn and that is why He continues to forgive when we seek forgiveness. Saul, as you can read, didn’t learn and he lost the kingship to David. Don’t lose the blessings God gave you by being hardheaded. Wait the seven days – Amen!
