The Enemy You Don't See

Psalm 23

1The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

2He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

3He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

4Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

5Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

6Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

Soldiers in the jungles, rice paddies and cities of Viet Nam fought an enemy that looked like civilians. Military forces in Iraq and Afghanistan are doing the same thing. The enemy is all around them but look like all the other people in the country. There are no uniforms to identify who is dangerous and who isn’t.

King David of Israel, who penned Psalm 23, knew his enemy on sight. They were the ones wanting to remove his head and came with sword, spear and bow. But what about your enemies?

Pogo (the cartoon character) said, "We Have Met The Enemy and He Is Us."

Remember, The Lord prepares a table for you in the midst of your enemies.

Here is a list of enemies you haven’t considered. Pick the one(s) that give you trouble!

Fears

Temptations

Doubts

Laziness

Jealousy

Coveting

Anger

There are others but this list will do for now. They are camped all around you. As the Bible teaches, We fight not against flesh and blood. Our spiritual warfare is every day, all day long against things we don’t see. Be as Paul, fight the good fight and don’t let your enemies defeat you. However, should you fall you have an advocate with the Father. He will forgive you when you ask and He will renew your strength for the battles to be fought. "Thou preparest a table before me."
