"Almost But Not It"

Do not be carried away by all kinds of strange teachings. It is good for our hearts to be strengthened by grace, not by ceremonial foods, which are of no value to those who eat them. Hebrews 13:9 (NIV)

There are those who still contend the moon landings were all a theatrical trick. In Other words – none of those landings really happened. We could easily say nothing major happened on September 11, 2001. What was on television was all trick photography.

Thomas, one of the twelve said, "I’ll not believe until I can put my finger in the nail-prints of His hands." Yes, there are those that doubt just about everything except what they can touch, feel and taste – hearing and seeing don’t count in this modern age of technology. But, there are also those that believe just about everything.

Years ago The Readers Digest Magazine ran ads for the LDS Church that took up several pages. Those ads explained their emphasis on family. Everything sounded great. People who were not knowledgeable about religions, denominations and cults would conclude the LDS Church was wholesome and was ideally suited for young families. One Christian lady talking with her niece said, "They left out Jesus!" She was partially right and partially wrong. They do have a doctrine of Jesus but it is not the same as the Christian Church.

There are many "almost" Christian organizations vying for attention and members. It is very easy for "almost" to be enough for some folks.

In the passage above it says we should not be carried away with all kinds of strange teachings. What was being taught and warned against was "almost". The Jews were telling folk they had to eat and drink according to Jewish teachings. Then there were several groups who twisted the Gospel and were in the business of making money through religion. Even the disciples came to Jesus and complained that there were people doing miracles in His name that were not believers. What they were complaining about was those other guys were making money by supposedly healing people. Jesus told the disciples it was none of their business and to take care of what was their business.

Jesus said, "Search the Scriptures because they testify of me." The best way to deal with doubts and doubtful teachings is to go to the Scriptures and study. History shows us time and again how man twists and turns God’s word for their own gain. The Devil when tempting Jesus in the desert quoted passages in such a way to twist the meaning. Let us be wise and seek the truth of God in His word. Today is a good day to begin a daily Bible reading and studying plan.
