| A Flying Leap | ||
![]() It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up. Eph 4:11-12 The mother ran outside because she heard screaming and yelling. She feared for her children who played in the backyard on the warm summer afternoon. As she rounded the shrubs, she saw her three little dears soaking wet from head to feet. Their backs were to her and they appeared to be fighting some demon in a large plastic tub. Two of the children were holding the family cats. "What on earth are you doing?" She demanded. The oldest turned and said, "We are just playing church but the cats won’t take their turn being baptized." There was video on the Internet of a little boy taking a flying leap and landing with a tidal wave into the baptismal pool next to the pastor. It was very, very funny. I suppose the poor boy got an earful from the pastor, his parents and his Sunday school teacher. There are a lot of things that occur in the church that are funny. Laughter is good medicine and good for the soul. The work of the church is to build up the body of Christ. The church is the body. We speak of the body of believers when referring to the church and this terminology is of the Bible but not understandable to new believers without a church background. Our task as apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers is to teach about Jesus, God’s love and the work of the church. The task is huge and it takes each and every person. Let’s endeavor to do the work God calls us to do. Jesus said, "the fields are white unto harvest but the laborers are few." Let us go willingly into the Lord’s house that we may be equipped to labor for Him.
