![]() Because of this, the rumor spread among the brothers that this disciple would not die. But Jesus did not say that he would not die; he only said, "If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you?" John 21:23 The dentist said to the mother of the ten-year-old sitting in the chair, "I’ve got to deaden it first!" The kid starts screaming, "I don’t want to die! Please don’t kill me!" Sometimes we hear what we want to hear and disregard the rest. Jesus said during the Last Supper (v. 22) in response to Peter’s question about John, "If I WILL that he tarry till I come what is that to you". What they heard was, "John isn’t going to die!" In verse 23 He has to say to them, "What is it to you if he lives or dies! Meaning it is none of your business. The important part of what He said is what they missed "follow me!" The old Southern saying is "don’t measure your bushel in someone’s peck bucket". Which means stay out of my business and attend to your own. We Christians have to put away jealousy and envy. We are called to FOLLOW Jesus. One of my favorite teachings is that of Henry Blackaby (Experiencing God study), "See where God is working and join Him". Let us follow Jesus and work where He leads us. Our lives will be much more enjoyable and fruitful rather when we aren’t whining about what someone else is doing or how they are being blessed. "Follow me!"
