Once An Orphan

How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. 1 John 3:1 (NIV)

Do you know the name - William Jefferson Blythe III. He was president of the United States. You won’t find the name on the list of presidents even though he served two terms. His father was killed before he was born and his mother re-married. The man she married was named Roger Clinton.

Notice in the verse above: Love, lavished, children.

God showers us with His love, so much love that He looks upon us as His children. Why does He choose to love us so much? Because when He looks at us He sees His son.

There was once a lady who grew very old and feeble. Age took its toll and her mind became confused. Confined to a wheelchair, she roamed the halls of the nursing home looking for her son. The boy died when he was just four. Whenever she could she would take people’s faces in her hands and stare. At times a long lost memory of the boy’s face would appear and then would beam with joy and hug the person for she had found her son.

God loves us and in us He wants to see His son who died on a cross. What God sees isn’t a memory but rather holiness and righteousness; the attributes of His Son and our Savior. He lavishes His love upon us and makes us joint heirs with His Son.

Today please remember that if you accepted Jesus as your Savior that God has adopted you into His family.

He loves you with an everlasting love that grows everyday as He gets to know you better and you get to know Him better.
