No Bait But Fishing

"Then the sons are exempt," Jesus said to him. 27"But so that we may not offend them, go to the lake and throw out your line. Take the first fish you catch; open its mouth and you will find a four-drachma coin. Take it and give it to them for my tax and yours." Matt. 17:27 (NIV)

Sometimes when reading the Bible it is handy to have more than one translation. There are many verses and passages that bring the thought, "That didn’t make any sense!" Another translation allows God to speak with words that are understandable.

Go down to the lake, throw a hook attached to a line into the water and pull out a fish with a coin in its mouth then pay the taxes we owe. For one thing, wouldn’t it be great to go fishing and be able to pay the taxes? For another, did Peter realize the miracle he was having a part in?

Everyday we live God is doing miracles. What we fail to realize is that He is using us in some of those miracles. Every time you tell someone about Jesus or even invite a person to church and they receive Him as their Savior you have participated in the miracle of rebirth. The tithes, gifts and offerings you give to your church that go to support missions brings the gifts of healing, food and other care.

It could be that just living for God and doing simple acts of kindness and compassion are the tools God is using to change lives, give hop and turn people from despair. We never know what God is going to use. It is such a thrill to watch a miracle unfold and know you played some small or large part.

Peter threw a bare hook into a lake and caught a fish that had a coin in its mouth. WOW! Bet that never happened to you! But Jesus said those who follow Him and believe in Him will do greater miracles. Let us not tire in well doing. Be a part of a miracle today!!
